Richard Berry’s Daughter ‘Outraged’ That He Plays Advocate for Women and Children in Show

In a letter addressed to the president of Paris, Coline Berry-Rojtman asks him that the profession positions itself so that it is not “accomplice of an imposture”. His father, Richard Berry, must resume major lawyers’ pleadings at the theater.

Coline Berry-Rojtman, eldest daughter of comedian Richard Berry whom she accuses of incest in the 1980s, says to herself “rebellious” that his father plays the lawyer of women and children in a show which resumes at the end of October in Paris, according to a letter consulted on Saturday by AFP.

In this letter dated Thursday and addressed to the president of the Paris Bar Association, Me Olivier Cousi, the one who filed a complaint on January 25 against the actor whom she accuses of incest in the years 1984-85 writes: “If my father denied (in the media) the accusations against him, he has however since this complaint, publicly admitted to serious repeated domestic violence”. “He admitted to having seriously struck my mother, Catherine Hiegel, who has since lost an eardrum.”

A show where he replays five major pleadings

“It is as a woman and as a plaintiff that I find it revolting and insulting that a person who has already admitted to some of the facts of which he is accused with regard to women can claim to be the spokesperson of the latter and of child victims of criminal offences”, she continues.

Richard Berry denied “with all (his) strength and without ambiguity these filthy accusations”. From the newspaper The world, however, he has “recognized” from “strokes” which would have been brought against the mother of Coline Berry-Rojtman, Catherine Hiegel, as well as against another ex-companion, Jeane Manson.

On October 31, the actor must resume at the Théâtre Libre in Paris the show “Plaidoiries”, in which he puts on the lawyer’s robe and reproduces five pleadings, including one from the late lawyer Gisèle Halimi in defense of abortion, or another by Me Jean-Pierre Mignard in defense of the families of Zyed Benna and Bouna Traoré, who died in an electrical transformer in Clichy-sous-Bois in 2005 while fleeing the police.

Coline Berry-Rojtman asks the chairman “not to be so complicit in this imposture by remaining silent in the face of this misuse of the lawyer’s robe.” “If Richard Berry wants to continue to play roles, let him do so, but stop donning the dress and the title that make your profession great”, she writes again.
