Padel: Cancel and Guichard lose in the 1/8th final of the FIP Gold in Perpignan

Dylan Guichard and his resident partner of the Mas club, Ludovic Cancel, lost yesterday in the round of 16 of the FIP Gold de Perpignan against the pair by the Spaniard Carlos Pérez and the Italian Emiliano Iriart, on the score of 6 -4/6-4.

He was the last licensee of the Mas club in the running for Catalonia, in Perpignan. Despite the support of the public, Ludovic Cancel, 29, failed to create the sensation of going out, with his 22-year-old Breton partner, Dylan Guichard, Carlos Pérez and Emiliano Iriart in the 1/8th final. Both men lost 6-4/6-4.

It must be said that on paper, a victory yesterday is almost impossible. Their two opponents of the day are both part of the world top 130, in the FIP ranking. As for Cancel-Guichard, only the latter is ranked (291st). The local of the event took advantage of a “Wild Card” (invitation, note) to be able to line up there. However, on the ground, this difference in level was not so obvious as that, despite the defeat in two sets. “Dylan and Ludovic had a very good match, they managed to compete. Their opponents were just better in the highlights, like at 4-4 in the second set, where they broke. This kind of match will allow them to learn and be ready for the titles of France, ”explained the manager of Mas and coach of the duo this week, Alain Henry.

After coming to his senses a few minutes after the end of the match, Ludovic Cancel fully agreed with his coach’s words: “It was a close match. We believed in it, because we stayed in the race for a long time. But this defeat is very encouraged for us. By confronting myself with this type of player, I see what I have to do to progress. Of course, I’m disappointed to have lost, but I think I will see the benefits of this match in two or three months. It will allow me to learn a lot”.
