More than 300,000 merchants provided compulsory health insurance

In commemoration of National Trader’s Day, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a meeting on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 under the theme: “Digitalization, essential lever for the revival of trade”. It was an opportunity for the speakers to look into social coverage for traders.

This annual meeting is an opportunity to highlight the driving role of the Moroccan trader, as a central actor in development and to take stock of the actions anticipated in favor of the sector, activator of social ties and actor of the quality of life. citizens.

Significant progress has been made in the generalization of social coverage. More than 300,000 traders provided compulsory health insurance.

The digitization of the sector has also been at the top of the priorities of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the development of national trade. The objective is to make the most of it, especially for local businesses which need, more than ever, simple and accessible digital tools to improve their competitiveness and added value.

Digitization is a foundation for the development of national trade, said the Minister. We envisage a new era activated on strengthening the competitiveness of the sector through the establishment of a homogeneous digital ecosystem promoting the resilience, agility, security and growth of the sector, in perfect symbiosis with the Royal Vision and the ambitions of the new development model which places digitalization among the five development challenges of the Kingdom “.

In this register, the national trade digitalization platform (MRTB), introduced in April 2022, will make it possible to develop digital solutions adapted to the needs of traders and consumers, by strengthening the innovation capacities of Moroccan entrepreneurs carrying out digital projects in high added value in the trade sector.

Similarly, suitable offers have been set up for the digitization of local commerce in partnership with the Digital Development Agency and pioneering locomotives in the e-commerce sector.

Thus, the Minister proceeded to the signing of two partnership agreements, with the locomotives of the e-commerce sector in Morocco “Jumia” and “Glovo”. These agreements aim to create more than 10,000 jobs, support for the digitization of local commerce, in particular through the referencing of more than 10,000 merchants at the level of these two platforms by 2025, the training of merchants in collaboration with the CCIS and professional associations, technical support to the MRTB and encouragement of the “made in Morocco” product nationally and internationally.

As a reminder, the trade sector is one of the pillars of the national economy: it contributes 7.9% of the national gross domestic product and it is the second largest employer at the national level, with approximately 1.59 million jobs. , or about 15.2% of the working population in Morocco. Convenience trade represents more than 85% of the number of transactions in the trade and distribution sector.
