Lawyers don’t take to the streets very often. However, at the end of 2021, they were configured twice. The first time, against the “confidence in the judicial institution” bill which threatened, according to them, the integrity of their professional secrecy. And the second, to demand “dignified means” for justice, alongside magistrates and clerks. “Justice is out of breath, the magistrates defend it, they say it, we support them” declared Jérôme Gavaudan, president of the CNB (National Bar Council). In early January, the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, François Molins, denounced “untenable working conditions” and the “structural lack of means” of justice. A speech described as “scandalous” by the Keeper of the Seals, Eric Dupond-Moretti.
In 2022, lawyers will continue to campaign for more financial means to be authorized to relieve the courts of the disputes that are piling up there. But that won’t be their only priority.
