Google Health Chief Says Company Wants To Be ‘Trusted’ By Consumers

Google’s health chief said the internet giant wants to be transparent and honest so consumers can “trust” it.

Training on the first day of the NHS Confed Expo, Dr Karen DeSalvo spoke about Google’s vision for the future of healthcare, including how the company can help by “aggregating data by making it more interoperable and then providing information”.

Questions about trust have also been raised, with DeSalvo saying so. [trust] was “job one” when it comes to practicing medicine.

She added, “If the patient and their family don’t trust you, they’re not going to tell you the things you need to know and that trust doesn’t just come because they love you, it comes because you’re credible. , you show up when you need to, when you follow up, you are transparent and honest.

“I think that’s how we [at Google] must deal with this work.

DeSalvo also said that Google “wants to be trusted by consumers” and that partnering with organizations like the NHS and others is a way to help build trust in the company. This reflects YouTube Health (which is owned by Google) recently revealed that it has partnered with the NHS to create a new feature that helps people in the UK find credible health information online.

Another topic brought up during the session in Liverpool was empowering patients with the right tools. DeSalvo explained that too often when health systems are built, too much emphasis is placed on “the bricks, the water, and the delivery system” and fails to provide patients with the tools they need.

She also encouraged the NHS to see patients “where they are”.

“We have the tools and the technology today to do that — we don’t need to force people off work or take transportation for a tour that could be done virtually,” DeSalvo said.

“Please consider knowing people where they are and empowering them to use tools that make them feel like when they enter an ecosystem they have a right to be there , to ask questions and that they know the steps to follow. »
