In partnership with Unstoppable Domains, bitcoin.com makes it easier than ever to use cryptocurrency as a payment method. Multi-Channel Users Bitcoin.com Wallet can now send cryptocurrency to the full range of domains offered by the blockchain-based domain provider. This means, for example, that people can send bitcoins to a human-readable address like “elizabeth.crypto” rather than the long and complicated wallet addresses that are native to the Bitcoin protocol (eg, bc1qar0srrr7xfkvy5l643lydnw9re59gtzzwf5mdq).
“Cryptocurrency is a powerful force for creating economic freedom around the world, but adoption has been stifled by frankly poor user experience – and the industry standard use of complex wallet addresses is a key issue,” said bitcoin.com CEO Dennis Jarvis. “Unstoppable Domains’ human-readable addresses are a big step in the right direction, which is why we’re proud to support them in our fully self-contained portfolio.”
Unstoppable Domains is one of the top three global blockchain-based domain providers, the other two being the Ethereum name service (ENS) and the Interwallet Operability Foundation (IOF). These services, which are all supported in the Bitcoin.com Walletprovide domain name extensions that are tied to a public blockchain rather than the traditional Domain Name System (DNS).
“When domain name ownership is authorized through public blockchains rather than the private databases of traditional domain name registration services like Verisign, the result is reduced censorship risk and proprietary rights. enhanced – two of the key value propositions of cryptocurrency in general,” Jarvis said.
A Unstoppable Domainsbuyers can buy a domain name such as “brad.crypto”, represented by a non-fungible token (NFT) who lives on Ethereum or Polygon blockchains. Through the Unstoppable Domains web portal, buyers can map their cryptocurrency addresses to their domain name/NFT, and this information is recorded on the blockchain. Anyone using the Bitcoin.com Wallet can then send any mapped cryptocurrency to the domain name owner by entering the domain name (e.g. “brad.crypto”) in the send field.
“With over 32 million wallets created, bitcoin.com Wallet has the potential to mainstream the use of NFT domains,” said Sandy Carter, SVP of Business Development at Unstoppable Domains. “We are excited to extend our partnership with Bitcoin.com so that we can not only simplify cryptocurrency payments, but also empower users to own their data and identity on the Web3.”
bitcoin.com CEO Dennis Jarvis added, “With bitcoin.com by launching our VERSE rewards and utility token, we will guide more and more newcomers to the web3/DeFi world. In this environment, tools that enforce sovereign data ownership are critical infrastructure. We are excited about the progress Unstoppable Domains has made and look forward to deeper integrations in the future.
