Takeoff of crypto – The Spanish airline Vueling spread its wings in the cryptosphere. It will indeed accept payments in Bitcoin (BTC) and in cryptocurrencies.
European plane tickets in crypto
Vueling announced in a press release dated June 16, 2022, its partnership with the crypto payment gateway BitPay. Thanks to this collaboration, the airline’s customers can payer their thefts in bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies.
In concrete terms, ticket prices will always be denominated in euros. Customers still have the choice between thirteen cryptocurrencies for settlement. They can pay: in Bitcoin Cash (BCH), in Dogecoin (DOGE), in Ether (ETH), in Litecoin (LTC), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC).
In practice, however, this method of payment will only be available only from the beginning of 2023, on the Vueling website. And only private customers could pay for their tickets in cryptocurrencies.

Vueling: first airline in crypto?
The press release underlines that Vueling becomes thanks to this initiative, the first low-cost airline in Europe to accept payments in cryptocurrencies.
However, the Latvian airline airBaltic accept bitcoin payments since 2014. It subsequently announced in 2021 that its customers could also pay for their plane tickets: in BCH, in ETH, in DOGE, and in various stablecoins. And airBaltic had also offered these means of payment in collaborater with BitPay.
Bitcoin Adoption Despite Market Drop
L’adoption growing use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment contrasts with the criticisms against the sector. The crypto winter that has set in and the fall from Bitcoin price to $20,000has only fueled attacks against crypto-assets.
However, commercial companies seem to ignore the umpteenth statement on the death of Bitcoin by its critics. A growing number of companies understands, indeed, that a dip in the cryptocurrencies allows them to better answer expectations of certain generations.
Cryptocurrencies are therefore not just a speculative asset, but also a transactional asset. For the Vice President of Marketing at BitPay, Merrick TheobaldBitcoin and its cadets are simply “ the future of payments “.
Cryptocurrencies thus continue to break through in various sectors, as means of payment. A recent study by Deloitte has also shown the enthusiasm of companies for this new method of payment. More 85% of American traders would consider activation of cryptocurrency settlements as a priority.
