After Bitcoin (BTC), the city of Miami is embarking on Web 3.0

Well known for his public positions in favor of cryptocurrencies and in particular Bitcoin (BTC), the mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, announced the launch of a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT) on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain. It will be co-produced by Time, Mastercard and Salesforce and will be released in December.

Miami launches its NFT collection

The city of Miami once again confirms its interest in Web3. The mayor, Francis Suarez, announced this Thursday the launch of a collection of 5000 non-fungible tokens (NFT) on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain. To make this project possible, the city has partnered with the magazine Timeas well as companies MasterCard and Selling power.

The NFTs were designed thanks to a collaboration of 56 artists from Miami. This figure refers directly to the area of ​​the city: 56 square miles. For now, the city has not yet communicated about the artistic characteristics of this collection.

Future holders of the NFTs will benefit from access to a special program offered by Mastercardincluding unique experiences at local restaurants, curated private tours, and unique cultural activities within Miami.

Time magazine will use its brand image nearly a century old to guide the strategy, develop the creation and promote the collection. Finally, Salesforce will take care of the technical aspect related at the mint and at the sale of the collection thanks to its new dedicated platform, called NFT Cloud.

The mayor of Miami clarified that the collection would not see the light of day until by the end of 2022. Indeed, the city wants to wait for the Ethereum blockchain to migrate to a network operating on Proof-Of-Stake (PoS), “a change that will reduce the initiative’s carbon emissions by a percentage of 99% or more”.

It’s no longer a surprise, Francis Suarez wants to make Miami a pioneering city in the cryptocurrency industry. Thus, the Republican politician explored various methods to integrate Bitcoin (BTC) into its metropolis.

As a reminder, he launched a cryptocurrency specially dedicated to Miami. titled the MiamiCoin, this one allowing to invest in the city by being rewarded in Bitcoin (BTC). In the space of 6 months, no less than $21 million which were generated by staking and redistributed to the inhabitants.
