A hydrocarbon leak causes pollution in the canal in Ath

The oil has been consumed. Alerted around 9:25 p.m. by the Environmental Police, the Wallonia Picardy emergency services intervened on Tuesday evening in Ath where the presence of hydrocarbons was noted in the canal at the Chemin des Navetteurs, behind the station. On the orders of Captain Eric Stasik, a boat and a logistics vehicle intervened.

The firefighters proceeded to remove the hydrocarbon which was floating in the canal using absorbent socks. The operation continued until half past midnight due to the size of the slick. A leak in the tank of a barge is the source of this pollution.
